The Service Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of School Buses, Vans, and Trucks in a fleet and dealership environment, with the goal of repairing vehicles and equipment in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.

Position Details)

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the diagnosis, repair and installation with varying degrees of assistance: Mid-range Diesel and Gasoline Engines, Power train to include differentials, transmissions, drive shafts, and wheel ends, Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, Steering systems, Electronics to include ECM’s, ECU’s, sensors etc., Emission control devices; EGR, DPF, SCR systems. External engine components such as turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system etc. Brake systems including ABS, Suspension systems (spring and air). Wheelchair lifts, securement devices and hand controls.
  • Perform mechanical Pre-delivery inspections.
  • Completes required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
  • Apply documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services on buses, trucks and trailers.
  • Identify warrant-able repairs and document on repair order.
  • Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.
  • Road test Vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Safely use hand tools and power tools, pressure gauges, torches, welders, and precision instruments, and jacks and hoists.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must be willing to move into different departments to keep the company running in an efficient manner. (This may include shift change)
  • Must be willing to take tests to provide management with information used for management and classification. (These tests may be written and/or oral)

  • Must have 1 year on the job experience or completion of a Technical School specializing in automotive or diesel repair. Must have own tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/Technical or certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret Technical service bulletins, manuals, schematics.
  • Motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Possession of a valid current Minimum Class “B” CDL license with air brake and passenger endorsement is a condition of employment. Applicants without a CDL will be considered. Rohrer will assist with obtaining a valid CDL, permitting, training assistance etc.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.
  • Electrical knowledge.
  • Computer skills.
  • Must have (or obtain within 6 months of hire) a PA Inspection license. (preferably Class #7)
  • Must be able to read and write at a High School level.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
