Topic	What to expect
Hours & Schedule	School-year routes with typical split shifts (AM & PM). Baseline part-time with options for extra hours (midday, sports, trips) as available. Once assigned, routes are generally consistent by time and location. Non-school days/holidays vary by district operations and assignments.
Training	Paid training provided; includes classroom and behind-the-wheel. Bus roles work toward CDL with P & S endorsements; van roles are non-CDL. Typical completion time is about 2–3 weeks, depending on availability and testing timelines.
Pre-Employment Screening	DOT drug test and DOT physical. Motor vehicle record review and standard new-hire paperwork. Please note: While medical marijuana is legal in Pennsylvania with a valid prescription, it remains illegal under federal law. Because Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs), including those required to operate a school bus, are regulated at the federal level, any use of marijuana—medical or otherwise—can disqualify an individual from obtaining or maintaining a CDL. This includes testing positive during required drug screenings.
Background Checks (PA)	Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH). FBI fingerprinting. Child Abuse clearance.
Assignments	Could include general education routes, special needs transportation, or activity/athletic trips. Vehicle type (bus or van) depends on district needs and your license/endorsements. Extra opportunities for field trips/charters when available.
Commitment	Request for a 12-month commitment after training to ensure reliable service.
Safety & Standards	Daily pre/post-trip inspections and safe driving practices. Reliable attendance and professional communication. Positive, student-centered conduct and following district/company policies.
