Rohrer Bus…four generations of transportation experience.
It all began in the early 1920’s when Howard Rohrer Sr. started transporting school children with a horse and wagon in Allen’s Cove, just south of Duncannon, Pennsylvania. The early horse-and-wagon evolved to a few wooden school bus bodies being built on car chassis’. Over the years student transportation grew.
That’s the way Rohrer Bus began.
Now fast forward to 1975. The school bus fleet had grown to 70 buses. Rohrer Bus Sales was formed, and Rohrer became the distributor for Wayne school buses. It was soon apparent that the company was quickly outgrowing the facility on the family farm. In 1976 ground was broken for a new sales and service facility.
By 1981 the 3rd generation of the Rohrer family was taking over the helm. H.E. “Skip” Rohrer III and his brother-in-law John Schrantz took over the company from H.E. Rohrer Jr. The operating fleet had grown to over 200 buses and in 1982 Rohrer became a dealer for Champion Bus selling commercial buses.
In the fall of 1999, Rohrer Bus became the Thomas Built Bus dealer for the state of Pennsylvania. Rohrer’s years of experience in the sale and operation of school and commercial buses, along with the Rohrer reputation for providing outstanding customer service, made Rohrer the logical choice when Thomas Built Buses was looking for a full service dealer to represent them. In June of 2005, Rohrer Bus was recognized by the Pennsylvania School Bus Association with the Platinum Bus award for providing quality school transportation for over 75 years. In 2006, Rohrer Bus was named Thomas Bus Dealer of the Year.
Today, Rohrer Bus offers a complete range of vans and buses varying from small passenger vans up to 90 passenger buses. Rohrer is a FULL service dealer, with factory-trained, ASE certified technicians providing factory approved service and warranty repairs for the ENTIRE bus.
Currently, the Rohrer fleet has grown to over 700 vehicles. The Duncannon facility has expanded several times, now with over 30,000 square feet, offering complete support along with the latest tools and equipment. Rohrer Bus has many satellite facilities located throughout our sales territory, and with over 800 people is the largest employer in Perry County.
The 4th generation of the Rohrer family is now in place with Tahva Rohrer Wylie and David Schrantz continuing our family’s dedication to the transportation industry.
With over 85 years of experience, we can handle any transportation need, while consistently demonstrating our commitment to the highest level of quality, safety and customer service.
